This work is concerned with the investigation of the wavelength dependent photodissociation of 1-,1-,1-trifluoroacetone (TFA), 1-,1-difluoroacetone (DFA) and 1-monofluoroacetone (MFA) after excitation to the S1 electronic state. For this purpose the method of velocity map imaging (VMI) was applied and the CH3 fragments were detected in their vibrational ground state. In analogy to acetone, one of the CC bonds breaks homolytically after photoexcitation, where the channel leading to CF3, CHF2, CH2F fragments, respectively, is energetically slightly favoured. The dominating pathway giving CH3 takes place from the T1 potential energy surface after an intersystem crossing (ISC) from the S1 state and the surmounting of an energetic barrier. The COCHxFy fragments, as well as the COCH3 fragments, which are formed in the parallel dissociation channel, are vibrationally excited by the dissociation process. This internal energy increases with shorter photolysis wavelengths. Finally the amount of internal energy leads to a unimolecular decay, and a second CH3 source arises. Comparing the photolysis of the fluoroacetones, several tendencies could be discovered: Most importantly, the strength of both CC bonds increases by successive fluorination. The barrier on the T1 surface decreases in the same order. In combination of these two effects, the T1 channel opens at shorter photolysis wavelengths in the sequence MFA-DFA-TFA. The second part of this work is concerned with the improvement of the VMI setup by the application of the Slice Imaging (SI) technique. While in VMI the 3D-information has to be reconstructed from the 2D-projection, this timeconsuming and error prone step is omitted doing SI, where only the interesting middle slice of the 3D ion sphere is detected. For SI, the detector gate has be chosen preferably small, and the arrival time span of the ion cloud at the detector has to be increased. The temporal elongation of the ion cloud was realized in two different manners: In DCSI (direct current slice imaging), the acceleration of the ion cloud is done in a much slower way by the introduction of additional electrodes. In DPFESI (delayed pulsed field extraction slice imaging), the stretching is achieved by a time delay between the ionization and the acceleration step. The performance of both methods was tested on several molecules. In each case the literature values could be reproduced.
