The present study was aimed at characterizing the igneous basement and the overlying sediment cover in order to address multiple aspects of hydrothermal alteration of oceanic crust and geochemical evolution of pelagic sediments over time, respectively, during transport on the moving Cocos Plate. The present dissertation has been written within the scope of the combined projects HO1833/16-1 and 18-1 funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) Priority Program SPP 527 (International Ocean Discovery Program).
