Effect of Dimensionality on Function : Fibers vs Films

The properties of materials are not only dependent upon their chemistry, but also on their physical shape, i.e., the properties of a material in its fiberous form may be different than when it is in the form of a film. Here, polymeric nanofilms and electrospun nanofibers, which may be sputter coated with silver or are containing a photochromic compound, are studied for their wetting properties, their response towards plasmonically generated heat as well as in regards to their optical properties.
