Experimental Evolution in Pseudomonas Fluorescens Cell Division and Protein Translation
In this thesis, I investigate the evolution of cell wall synthesis and protein translation in Pseudomonas. The experiments show how evolution shape both processes, and the organism can alter different cellular systems as and adaptive answer to their disruption. In the first chapter, disruption of longitudianl cell wall elongation leads to defect in cell division, recoverable thorugh mutations of the cell division system. In the second and third chapter, loss of ribosomal proteins leads to lowered fitness due to a decrease in protein synthesis, recoverable trough furhter changes in transcription regulation.
