The text centers on the social and historical impact of Albert Eckhout`s paintings. Eckhout was the artist who, according to Count Mauricio of Nassau's orders, was to portray the Brazilian people and their country. Considering that Nassau's concern was not only conquest and oc- cupation, but the natives' colonization and adaptation to Holland's colonial project of those years, Eckhout's Work is unequalled in terms of its visual and social design.
