Sedimentology and Geochemistry of the Campano-Maastrichtian Mudstones of the MAMU Formation, Benin Flank, SW Anambra Basin, Nigeria

In this study, we investigated the latest Cretaceous flooding episode recorded in Campano-Maastrichtian mudstones in the western flank of the Nigerian section of the West African Rift System. My findings show that the wave-dominated estuarine conditions prevailed. In addition, I hypothesize that the seaway was of low salinity, with oxic bottom water. Furthermore, the sediments were sourced from basement rocks as well as recycled pre-Santonian units from at least three provenance regions
