Funktionelle Ergebnisse nach Prostatavaporisation mittels KTP-Laser

Objectives: We determined the impact of 80-Watt KTP laser therapy of the prostate on voiding function, quality of life, and sexual function. Methods: 45 patients with symptomatic BPH were treated by laser vaporization of the prostate. International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF)and urodynamics were measured at baseline, 3mo and 12mo. Results: Despite transient micturition complaints (40%), all patients showed significant improvement in IPSS, urinary peak flow and detrusor pressure at peak flow at 3 mo and 12 mo. Post-void residual urine volume decreased, while IIEF scores and detrusor contractility were unaffected by the procedure. Conclusions: KTP laser therapy of the prostate achieves significant improvements both symptomatically and in objective micturition parameters. The procedure leads to a functional deobstruction of the lower urinary tract with steady improvement results throughout the follow up period.
