The interplay of faulting, magmatism and hydrothermal fluid flow at oceanic ridges – new insights from numerical modeling
The dissertation examines the interplay between the convection of hydrothermal fluids, magmatic processes and permeable faults in the oceanic lithosphere in Mid-Ocean Ridge settings. Two types of numerical models have been developed: a 2D porous flow model for the hydrothermal circulation and a 2D mechanical model solving the visco-elasto-plastic deformation of rocks during seafloor spreading.
