Shot noise measurements at single atom contacts in a low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscope
A setup to measure shot noise at atomic contacts in a scanning tunnelling microscope is described. Shot noise measurements were performed at contacts to single Au, Fe and Co atoms on a Au(111) surface. Contacts to some of the Fe and Co atoms showed indications of a spin-polarisation of the transport channel.
