First genetically confirmed isolation of Pseudogymnoascus appendiculatus in Europe – surprisingly from psoriatic human skin
many keratinophilic fungi can temporarily colonize the human epidermis and contribute to its microflora under appropriate conditions. Fungi with Geomyces anamorphs belong to this group, for example Geomyces pannorum. In recent years, new species with Geomyces anamorphs have been detected, some of them with fertile ascocarps matching those of Pseudogymnoascus spp. In 2006 Pseudogymnoascus (P.) appendiculatus was described as a new species that was isolated from a sphagnum bog in Canada.
