In this study, we offer a historical approach to the Roman city of Carissa Aurelia through the analysis of its epigraphic documentation. This corpus—comprising public, funerary, and christian inscriptions—makes it possible to reconstruct key aspects of the community’s legal, social, and cultural development. The evidence examined reveals early Romanization, the existence of a local ordo, euergetic practices, and tributes to the domus Augusta. The city’s legal promotion, probably as a municipium in the Caesarian period, is also analyzed on the basis of epigraphy and literary sources. Finally, the persistence of settlement in Late Antiquity is documented through Christian inscriptions that attest to the presence of a religious building. Taken together, the study demonstrates the value of epigraphy as a source complementary to the archaeological record for understanding the historical trajectory of Carissa Aurelia.
