Secondary DC Microgrid Control Through Talkative DC-DC Power Converters
The control of dc microgrids is important to ensure reliable operation of mission critical applications such as data centers. Classical primary droop control is beneficial through its decentralization but suffers of drawbacks such as steady state voltage deviation and improper current sharing. In order to mitigate this, central secondary control is an option. However, this requires an additional communication architecture. In order to avoid costly additional communication infrastructure, this main drawback can be addressed by Talkative Power Conversion (TPC). TPC provides a communication link without additional infrastructure by encoding data into the dc-dc converter switch ing ripple. This communication link can be used to transmit the necessary control parameters between converters along the dc link. In this work, TPC is used to establish a central secondary dc microgrid control.
