Detection of cervical and thoracic multiple sclerosis lesions of the spinal cord using a 3D phase-sensitive inversion recovery (PSIR) magnetic resonance imaging technique at 1.5T
Our study focused on the challenges of detecting spinal inflammatory lesions, highlighting the potential of 3D T1-weighted PSIR at a 1.5T field strength. We analyzed lesion detection rates in 50 patients diagnosed with RRMS. We divided spinal cord MR images into three datasets, labeled T2 TSE, PSIR, and STIR. Each dataset was paired with sagittal images of contrast-enhanced 2D T1-weighted TSE sequences. 3D T1-weighted PSIR imaging showed higher lesion detection rates than 2D T2-weighted TSE and 2D T2-weighted STIR, echoing previously reported findings at 3T.
